Terms of Service
Last updated: October 19, 2026
MURMURLINE connects you with a random stranger for a text conversation. There's no sign-up, no identity check, and no moderation of what people say to each other beyond what's described here. By using the site, you agree to these terms.
Who can use this
You must be at least 18 years old to use MURMURLINE. By using the service you're confirming that you are.
What you agree not to do
- Use the service to harass, threaten, exploit, or endanger anyone, including minors.
- Share or solicit child sexual abuse material, or engage in any sexual conversation with someone you know or suspect is a minor. See our child safety standards.
- Automate connections — bots, scripts, or scraping the matchmaking system. (We actively detect and block this.)
- Use the service for anything illegal under the laws that apply to you.
- Impersonate another person, or misrepresent your age, gender, or identity in a way intended to deceive or harm.
- Attempt to de-anonymize, track, or identify other users.
- Send images or custom stickers that are sexually explicit, violent, hateful, or otherwise illegal. Stickers are shown to strangers blurred until they choose to view them, and you can be reported for what you send.
Kept chats
A chat can be kept only if both people agree, and either of you can end it at any time, which deletes it for both of you. You are responsible for what you send in a kept chat exactly as in any other chat, and the rules above apply. You can Report the other person from a kept chat, which ends and deletes it. Kept chats live on your device; we cannot recover one you have lost, and we delete kept chats after 30 days without activity or if we need to act on abuse. We may change or remove this feature at any time.
Publishing stickers to the library
You can submit a sticker pack to the shared sticker library. Submissions are anonymous and are reviewed by us before anything becomes public; we may decline, hide or remove any pack at any time, for any reason. By submitting, you confirm you made the images or have the right to share them, and you give us permission to host and show them to other users of the service until they are removed. Do not submit anything explicit, hateful, harassing, infringing or illegal. Users can report a library pack, and packs that are reported repeatedly are hidden until we have looked at them. To ask for a pack to be removed, including for copyright reasons, contact us at the address below.
Coins and Plus
Coins are a virtual currency inside Murmurline. You can earn them through the app and the website (for example by opening it each day, by real chats, by inviting a friend, or in the Android app by choosing to watch a rewarded ad) or buy them in the Android app through Google Play, at the price Google shows you. Coins have no cash value, can't be sold, transferred for money or turned back into money, and don't expire. You can spend coins on Plus (30 days of extras: the gender filter and Nearby without limits, longer-held chats, a ✦ badge, themes and sticker packs) and on single actions such as 24 hours of the gender filter or Nearby, or holding one chat longer. Without Plus or a pass, the gender filter and Nearby are free for a limited number of searches a day, then need coins or Plus. Plus and passes work on one phone and one browser at a time. Plus does not renew by itself; it ends on its date and your remaining coins stay yours. Prices in coins and rewards can change; a change never reduces coins you already have. If Google Play refunds a coin pack, the coins from it are taken back, and so are unused Plus days and passes bought with coins since that purchase, as far as needed to cover them; what you already used stays used and you never owe coins. We may remove coins earned by abuse (fake chats, automated activity, self-referrals). An invite pays only after the invited friend's first real chat, and an inviter is paid for a limited number of friends in 30 days. Rewarded ads are optional and limited per day; coins for an ad are added only when Google confirms the ad was watched, so an ad that is skipped, blocked or fails pays nothing. Your wallet code is yours alone: whoever has it can spend the coins, so keep it safe. In the Android app your wallet belongs to your phone: reinstalling the app on the same phone brings it back, but a factory reset or a new phone starts a new wallet. If that happens, we may be able to restore coins you bought if you give us the Google Play order number; coins you earned can't be restored. Coin purchases follow Google Play's refund rules.
We may change or end Coins, Plus or passes. If we end Coins or Plus, we will announce it in the app and on this site at least 30 days before it happens. Plus and passes that are already running continue until their end date, and you can keep spending your coins until Coins end. Coins have no cash value, so ending them does not entitle you to money back; this doesn't limit any refund Google Play gives you under its own rules or any right you have under the law.
No content review, automated pattern-based moderation
Messages are end-to-end encrypted specifically so that we cannot read them — which also means we cannot review or filter conversations in real time. What we do instead: your own browser checks your outgoing messages against a set of patterns before sending. Matches are blocked and flagged against your connection. Flags escalate: enough of them within an hour puts your connection in a temporary timeout — 5 minutes the first time, 30 minutes the second, 24 hours for further repeats. There's no permanent, indefinite block — every timeout has a fixed, visible expiry. If your partner sends something matching the most severe patterns, the chat auto-ends and they're automatically reported — you don't have to do anything. Less severe matches (harassment, unwanted solicitation, off-platform redirects, repeated spam) are blocked on your side and nudge you toward the Report button on theirs. None of this involves us reading message content — it happens entirely in your browser, and only a "this happened" signal (never the text) ever reaches our server. You can also use "Report" yourself any time. If you encounter illegal content or conduct, report it to local law enforcement where appropriate.
No warranty
The service is provided "as is," with no guarantee it will be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular person you're matched with is who or what they claim to be. We make no representations about the identity, age, intentions, or conduct of any other user.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, MURMURLINE and its operator are not liable for any harm, loss, or damage arising from your use of the service or your interactions with other users — including anything another user says or does. You use the service, and interact with strangers through it, entirely at your own risk.
Termination
We can block, rate-limit, or deny access to the service for any connection at any time, without notice, particularly to enforce these terms or defend against abuse. Since there are no accounts, "termination" simply means we stop accepting connections from a given source.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service changes. Continuing to use MURMURLINE after an update means you accept the revised terms. Check back here periodically.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these terms or the service. This doesn't take away any protection you have under the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live.
