MURMURLINE is a free, anonymous, one-on-one text chat with strangers. No sign-up, no email, no phone number — pick an alias and you're in the queue.

How it works

1. Open murmurline.chat — you'll be given a random alias (or type your own).
2. Press "Start listening." Your browser generates a fresh, one-time encryption key pair.
3. The moment another person is also listening, you're paired one-on-one and can start typing.
4. Hang up, skip to a new stranger, or report — all instant, no confirmation dialogs to fight through.

Why text-only

No camera, no microphone, no video roulette. Text keeps the exchange deliberate — you choose what to say and what to reveal, at your own pace, and it removes the entire category of abuse that video-based "chat roulette" sites became known for.

What actually stays anonymous

• No account. There's nothing to sign up for and nothing to sign into later.
• No phone number, no email. Neither is ever requested.
• Your alias isn't tied to anything. Reroll it any time before you start.
• Messages are end-to-end encrypted in your browser before they're sent — see how the encryption works. Our relay server only ever sees ciphertext; it cannot read your conversation.
• Nothing is stored by default. Close the tab or hang up, and the chat and its key are gone. The only exception is if you and your partner both explicitly choose to "Keep chat" — then it's saved end-to-end encrypted on both of your devices, never on ours.

Optional filters

If you want more control than pure random matching, you can self-report a gender and filter who you're paired with (any, women, men, non-binary), and optionally restrict matching to people nearby instead of anywhere in the world — see private random chat.
